The death of a blog

Posted on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 5:43 pm, by Alethea Oglethorpe.

After nearly four years, and with considerable regret, we have decided to discontinue this blog. Although our decision was precipitated by some technical issues, the fact is that for some time now business has just been too brisk for us to keep up with our blogging duties as we understand them.

Future announcements concerning such things as new cards and the new stores carrying them will be found on our Facebook page, which I therefore sincerely commend to your attention.

Although we intend to take the blog down shortly, we want to keep its more instructive content available. Therefore, we will be turning this space into an archival resource for Dr. Hurlbutt’s investigations of all things peculiar, Cadwalader’s essays on vintage graphics, and a few other items.

I am very sorry to hear this news, though it isn’t entirely unexpected. (It is likely that I would be less sorry if I weren’t convinced that Facebook is a soulless beast intent on taking over the world.) I am happy to hear that business is brisk, however, and am wishing you much success in the future!

Thanks, Carol. As it happens, I detest Facebook, but a lot more people “like” Archelaus there than follow our blog’s RSS feed, so it’s really just a matter of being practical. The duplication of effort involved in cross-linking everything was wearisome, too.

I have every expectation that substantive articles that would previously have gone into the blog will still appear on our website in some form every now and then. When that happens, Facebook will be the best way to find out about it.

Thank you for your support!
