Seventeenth-century plague doctors donned personal protective equipment in the form of special waxed coats, beaked masks, and crystal goggles, as illustrated in the fine copper engraving ornamenting our latest pandemic card. The illustration was originally published by Paul Fürst, Nuremberg (c. 1656).
